How to Get Started with Social Media | Twitter and Blogger for Lawyers

Are you an attorney or business professional looking to get started using social media?  With little or no technical expertise, you can set up a blog and a Twitter account and begin your journey into social media.  This venture will not only introduce you to new content to educate you on your field or area of interest, it can help you grow your business by attracting people to your site.

Get a Free Blog:

You can easily sign up for a free blog such as Blogger.com and build your first blog site with their easy to follow wizard.  You can set up a blog in less than an hour.  Once your in design mode, you can create your arrangement, color scheme, and easily add news feeds, videos, and links to your website.

My favorite Blogger gadgets include the video bar and the newsreel.  The video bar can pull in content from YouTube and Google Videos.  Video content makes your blog more interactive and may inspire you to create your own video showcasing your business.  If you don't have your own videos to showcase, you can show top videos or other channels.  There is always something to watch on YouTube.  I like the newsreel gadget because you can pull in your favorite topics from major news sources without any coding.  All you do is add your key words (law, divorce, etc.).  In as little as 15 minutes, you have hot topics streaming in and  this will give you more content to talk about on your blog, website, and even Twitter.

Get Started on Twitter:

Twitter is another free social media tool and sign up only takes a couple minutes.  To get started on Twitter,  search on the topics you are interested in and follow other Twitter users.  Once you start following others and sending quality tweets, people will begin to follow you.  Some people are challenged to see the usefulness of Twitter.  At the end of the day, it's another vehicle to talk to people and understand what others are talking about.  If your passionate about a specific topic, it's a great way to connect with others who share your passion.  You can tweet about your business, or you can just share interesting stories.  Twitter is a great place to meet new people and learn about content that is relevant to your business or personal interests.  Once you have relevant content from your blog, you can begin to tweet your comments about interesting events or share your own blog updates.

If you want to get started with social media in under an hour, you can get your first blog and tweet underway and take your online marketing to the next level.  Good luck!
